The GoYa Quartet was born in 2014 and is formed by Sylvia Huang, Mirelys Morgan Verdecia, Saeko Oguma and Honorine Schaeffer.
These four musicians from respectively Belgium, Cuba, Japan and France, found each other in the orchestra they play in, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and have forged close ties on the basis of musical and human affinity.
Their collaboration has yielded wonderful opportunities for them in a very short span of time: the GoYa Quartet has already performed many concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, in halls such as the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Muziekgebouw aan’t Ij, TivoliVredeburg in Utrecht, the Brussels Royal Conservatory, etc. In April 2016, they also went on their first tour through Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
After having won the prestigious Prix de Salon 2015, awarded by the business network of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the GoYa Quartet Amsterdam was able to make recordings of two live performances of all Brahms and Schumann String Quartets.
Their repertoire is very diverse, ranging from Haydn and Schubert to Ravel and Bartók. Moreover, the ensemble enjoys playing in combination with other instruments. In May 2016 their first CD was released, recorded in partnership with contrabassoonist Simon Van Holen, with music by Krommer, Olthuis and Français. In March 2019, the quartet perfomed with the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s solo clarinettist Calogero Palermo in Italy.
The GoYa Quartet was invited to several international festivals, including the Quartz Internationaal Strijkkwartetfestival in Belgium, where they performed Mendelssohn Octet with the Danel Quartet. In November 2020, they recorded Beethoven’s quartet op.18, No. 1 during the Beethoven Online Festival organized by the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in August 2022, they made their debut recital in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
